The Purple Heart:

The Purple Heart is awarded for wounds or death as a result of an act of any opposing Armed Force, as a result of an international terrorist attack or as a result of military operations while serving as part of a peacekeeping force. Rojohn was injured after his life-saving crash landing in Germany, making him applicable for this medal.

The Prisoner of War Medal:

Awarded to any member of the U.S. Armed Forces taken prisoner during any armed conflict dating from World War I. After Rojohn crash-landed in Germany, he and his co-pilot were taken as prisoners of war. Luckily, the war ended soon after being taken prisoner.

The Air Medal:

The Air Medal is awarded to U.S. and civilian personnel for single acts of heroism or meritorious achievements while participating in aerial flight and foreign military personnel in actual combat in support of operations. Because of his involvement with piloting The Piggyback Flight aircraft, Rojohn received this award.

The Victory in WWII Medal:

The World War II Victory Medal (WWIIVM) is presented to all members of the U.S. military who served in active duty or as a reserve during the period of December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946. Rojohn obviously served during WWII, thus receiving his award.

The American Campaign Medal:

The American Campaign Medal is granted to personnel who served one year of consecutive duty between December 7, 1941 to March 2, 1946 and within the continental borders of the U.S. Before piloting his aircraft, Rojohn was in America in order to prepare for the attack.

The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal:

The medal was intended to recognize those military service members who had performed military duty in the European Theater (to include North Africa and the Middle East) during the years of the Second World War. By not only serving in America but also Europe, Rojohn was given this medal.
